Cricklewood / Brent Cross Controlled Parking Zoning Objection

What is happening?

Barnet Council’s new experimental parking rules (CPZ) are creating an unintended barrier to Clitterhouse Playing Fields and Farm. By imposing all-day, 7-day-a-week charges, the Council is making our public green space difficult to reach for families, the elderly, and those with disabilities who live further than walking distance.

Public open spaces should be accessible to the whole community.

Our travel poll shows that nearly 40% of visitors rely on cars to reach the farm and fields—including new mothers, SEND families, and those with mobility needs. While we all want to stop all-day commuters from clogging our streets, the current "all-day" solution is a barrier to our local arts, heritage, and health.

THE FAIR SOLUTION: A 1-hour "Commuter Trap" (Mon–Fri only).

This is the perfect middle ground. It stops station-bound commuters from parking all day, but keeps the fields and farm open and inclusive for residents, volunteers, and visitors for the remaining 23 hours of the day.

Why this matters for Barnet:

  • Health for All: Barnet’s Health & Wellbeing Strategy encourages park use—the 1-hour model supports this by keeping the outdoors accessible to everyone.

  • Culture & Heritage: Barnet is bidding for Borough of Culture. We need to ensure our unique heritage assets remain reachable for all residents, not just those nearby.

A Solution for Everyone: The 1-hour model protects the streets for local residents while preserving the inclusive spirit of our public playing fields.
